Two very significant ‘firsts’ have occurred at Auckland DHB this year
The first nurses from the Pacifica community to receive scholarships from A+ Trust have graduated. Secondly the two successful nurses, Lina Fa’alau and Florestina Palepa To’omata are the first in their respective families to graduate with a tertiary qualification. This is a very significant milestone in their lives and for the DHB.
Since 2008 the A+ Trust has sponsored 37 students with their health studies and a significant number have been Maori or Pacific Island students who would not have had the opportunity to realize their dream of becoming a nurse or other health professional if they had not received help from the A+ Trust.
Both Lina and Florestina received full four-year sponsorships. Lina is now working in the surgical orthopaedic ward and Florestina is a wonderful addition to the team working in Te Whetu Tawera the Auckland DHB Mental Health Unit.
Training scholarships are one of the major commitments of the A+ Trust and they are only possible with the support from donors.
