Throughout 2017 the A+ Trust has been getting to know its supporters better through a series of special gatherings that provide the opportunity for donors to go behind the scene at the hospital and see first-hand how staff is trained. Friends of the A+ Trust have been invited to visit the Clinical Skills Centre to see how clinical staff practice technical skills. This is where all staff can practice life-saving techniques on expensive real-life mannequins so that they are ready for all the life and death challenges they face. This is an area of the hospital that is not open to members of the public, so to see for themselves how staff respond in ‘simulated emergencies’ is really fascinating.
In addition to visiting the Clinical Skills Centre, supporters were able to hear from clinicians including many specialist doctors, and watch a video about the work of A+ Trust presented by TV personality Petra Bagust. Guests at a recent Meet ‘n Greet had a ‘behind the scenes’ experience in the Cardio Vascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU). Guests were fascinated and left the morning with an overwhelming feeling of confidence in the training systems and practices of Auckland DHB.
We are planning another series of Meet ‘n Greets next year.
